Dear Buena Vista River Park Community,
We are excited to share the latest progress on the remodel of the Pocket Wave 2.0, a key in-stream recreational feature of our beloved Buena Vista River Park. As many of you know, this project has been our significant focus as we strive to enhance our park’s offerings and ensure an enjoyable user experience for all.
Final Design Adjustments
This week marks an important milestone as our dedicated team of engineers completes the final edits to the design. Their primary goal is to create an in-stream play and surf feature that elevates performance and extends its usability over a longer portion of the summer season. This means more days of fun on the water for everyone, from casual paddlers to dedicated surfers.
Performance and Safety
A key aspect of the new design is its emphasis on higher performance. The engineers are incorporating innovative elements to make the wave more dynamic and enjoyable for a wider range of skill levels. At the same time, user well-being remains our top priority. The design adjustments include features that will ensure a safer environment for all participants, whether riding the waves or enjoying the river.
Preserving Natural Aesthetics
We understand the importance of maintaining our whitewater park’s natural beauty and feel. The remodel aims to enhance the wave feature without compromising the park’s scenic and serene environment. Our engineers are working diligently to blend the new design into the existing landscape, preserving the natural aesthetics that make Buena Vista River Park a special place.
Looking Ahead
As we move closer to finalizing the design, we are enthusiastic about the upcoming construction phase. Our goal is to begin work on August 19th, as long as the water is not too high. Higher flows are not conducive to in-stream construction practices. Fall water transfers on the Ark are not fully scheduled at the time. We will inform the community with regular updates on the progress and any impacts on park usage. Your support and enthusiasm for this project have been invaluable, and we look forward to celebrating the completed Pocket Wave 2.0 with you all.
Thank you for your continued support and patience as we work to bring this exciting new feature to life.
Warm regards,
Friends of the Buena Vista River Park
Q: Will Pocket 2.0 be a copy of Scout wave?
A: No. This will be something of a hybrid between Scout wave and Office wave.
Q: What are the anticipated usable flows?
A: The goal is for Pocket Wave to be usable at 400CFS and up. Currently the Pocket wave is only usable at 1600CFS and above. The most common flows in the Buena Vista River Park are 500-800CFS.
