Friends of the Buena Vista River Park - Community Impact Update

Promoting the River. Connecting the people.

The Friends of the Buena Vista River Park continue to make a powerful impact in our community by supporting education, safety, stewardship, and celebration of our incredible river resources. Through partnerships with the Town of Buena Vista, CPW, AHRA, and local businesses, their work ensures the River Park remains a safe, accessible, and inspiring place for all. Here’s a snapshot of what’s been happening:

Every Third-Grader in a PFD

In partnership with Colorado Parks & Wildlife and the Town of Buena Vista, Friends of the BV River Park proudly supported the Youth PFD Program—ensuring that every third-grade student in Buena Vista received education on river safety and a free personal flotation device (PFD). Each PFD can be exchanged for a larger size as the child grows, at no cost. This initiative promotes lifelong river safety and recreation. Huge thanks to CPW for making this possible!

Flow State Pilsner – Cheers to the River!

Eddyline Brewing introduced the Flow State Czech Pilsner, crafted to raise awareness and funds for the River Park. Described as crisp, balanced, and “perfectly crushable,” this refreshing beer is now available in cans and on tap.

Proceeds from Flow State directly benefit the Friends of the BV River Park, supporting ongoing maintenance, upgrades, and new features in the Buena Vista Whitewater Park. Special thanks to Eddyline for hosting a launch party that brought community members together in celebration of the park we all love.

PaddleFest 2025 – On-Water Events Hosted by Friends of the BV River Park

We’re excited to announce that Friends of the BV River Park will lead the on-water events for this year’s CKS PaddleFest—Buena Vista’s signature kickoff to the summer season. PaddleFest celebrates river culture, outdoor adventure, and community spirit, and now these events will be directly tied to the continued improvement of the River Park. Mark your calendars and come out to compete, spectate, and show your support!

PFD Loaner Station Now Open

The Lifejacket Loaner Station—a collaboration between the Town, Friends of the BV River Park, and the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area (AHRA)—is now open for the season! Located just below the dog park and above the Staircase Wave, the station provides free public access to lifejackets for anyone heading onto the river. Please use them safely and return them for others to enjoy.

This annual program underscores our community’s commitment to river safety and responsible recreation.

Thank you to all the volunteers, sponsors, and partners who support the Friends of the BV River Park. Together, we’re building a safer, more vibrant future for river users of all ages.
